2012 - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

These new releases from Cantina di Terlano are impressive. As much as I admire the top wines, I simply adore the entry-level bottling for their unbeatable combination of quality, value and regional/varietal typicity.

  • Nova Domus '08

    93 points
The 2008 Terlaner Riserva Nova Domus is big, rich and expansive. Layers of rich, tropical fruit are buffered by vibrant acidity in this broad-shouldered expressive white. I especially like the way the wine blossoms on he mid-palate and finish. Early tertiary notes have begun to develop in the bottle, but the 2008 still has many years of fine drinking ahead of it.
  • Lunare '09

    93 points
The 2009 Gewürztraminer Lunare is magnificent. There is so much intensity in the aromas and flavors, yet the wine remains weightless. Crushed rocks, salt, peaches, mango, tropical fruit and dried flowers are layered into the sublime finish. This is another fabulous showing from Terlano.
  • Kreuth '09

    93 points
The 2009 Chardonnay Kreuth is impressive. I have seldom encountered an Alto Adige Chardonnay where fruit, structure and terroir are all so beautifully balanced. Layers of tropical fruit and spices are supported by insistent layers of saline minerality. The polished finish is like a breath of fresh Alpine air.
  • Porphyr '08

    92 points
The 2008 Lagrein Riserva Poprhyr is very pretty in this vintage. Bacon fat, crusehd rocks, blackberries and licorice all come alive in the glass. There is a tension in the 2008 that is palpable. At the same time, most of the wilder notes typical of Lagrein have been tamed.
  • Winkl '10

    92 points
The 2010 Sauvignon Winkl emerges from the glass with mint, lime, crushed rocks. It is marvelously focused, deep and bursting with character. There is no shortage of personality here. A complex, multidimensional finish rounds things out in style. This is a fabulous showing.
  • Gewürztraminer '10

    92 points
The 2010 Gewürztraminer is gorgeous. Layers of passion fruit, mango, dried flowers and spices flow effortlessly from the glass as the wine opens up. All of the elements come together beautifully in this large-scaled, impeccable white. I loved it.
  • Quarz '09

    90 points
The 2009 Sauvignon Quarz boasts impressive depth and richness. [...] Ripe apricots and peaches flesh out on the finish.
  • Monticol '08

    90 points
The 2008 Pinot Noir Riserva Montigl has acquired pretty notes of tobacco, spices, herbs and leather, all of which add considerable nuance to the fruit. The 2008 could use a little more depth, bit it is nevertheless attractive for its complexity. Hints of sweet red cherries, tobacco and licorice meld into the finish.
  • Pinot Bianco '10

    90 points
The 2010 Pinot Bianco is impeccable. It possesses striking varietal fruit, well-delineated aromatics and clean, vibrant minerality. Pearsm quince and flowers linger on the finish, but what truly stands out is the wine’s textural brilliance and creamy, expressive finish. This is a dazzling wine for the money.
